Sentinel v12 Hub Upgrade Proposal Now Open for Voting
Only seven days now remain until the biggest upgrade in the history of the Sentinel blockchain is implemented.
The governance proposal to implement Sentinel's long-awaited v12 Hub Upgrade is now open for voting, marking the official start of the upgrade deployment process.
Proposal 64 was posted by the team earlier today, and passage when voting ends on 25 October is a certainty. Once the proposal is passed, the upgrade will begin in earnest. Nothing else will be required from application users and coinholders; but validators, developers, and other backend contributors should stay tuned to team communications in case any action is needed at their end during the upgrade deployment process.
v12 has been in the works for more than a year. It contains a litany of new features and tweaks which have been designed to provide a next-level experience to the ecosystem's thousands of application users, bandwidth providers, and developers.
Large-scale blockchain updates such as these are often called hub upgrades or chain upgrades. They're used by developers to deploy a collection of fixes and new features en masse, rather than one-by-one. The one which was just posted for voting will be the first of its kind on Sentinel in two years.
The final public testnet phase began in late August and lasted until yesterday. Back when the testnet went live, we published an article which outlined all of the specific changes coming to the chain. If you'd like to learn more about the upgrade, we encourage you to read either that article or the text of Proposal 64.

In addition to creating a better overall experience for Sentinel's application users, infrastructure hosts, and developers, the upgrade will clear the path for the full relaunch of Ryn VPN as a Sentinel-powered decentralized VPN. The integration of Ryn—which has over a hundred thousand active users and over five million total downloads—will increase daily traffic on the Sentinel blockchain's dVPN network by roughly 1000%.
The start of the hub upgrade process isn't the only long-awaited development milestone to see the light of day this month: The project's new official website went live just five days ago. This tandem of huge releases (soon to be complemented by Ryn VPN's launch and a listing for the P2P Coin on Uniswap) has set the stage for a momentous autumn for Sentinel.

What is Sentinel?
Sentinel is a peer-to-peer global bandwidth marketplace which powers both privacy-focused consumer products and development utilities. The most prominent of these usecases at present are decentralised VPN (dVPN) applications and data acquisition for the training of AI models.
